. steve in illinois, democratic caller. here is debtclock.org, showing that we have reached the ceiling, but we will run out of money in mid february or march. go ahead. caller: yes, i believe in a few things the previous caller said, about giving away free phones. i think people get food stamps plus go to food pantries and get food and they have plenty of food. i have seen them sell their food stamps. there is a lot of waste and fraud and abuse in the lower portion. if you want to take a look and see the waste, fraud, and abuse in the military spending and so forth, it is on both sides of the poincoin. we have to take a look at both sides. today our soldiers are coming home in this wasteful war. they are killing themselves faster than they are killing themselves in afghanistan. host: that is a headline this morning, steve, in the papers. caller: we need to get these veterans some help, too, so they stop killing themselves. it is -- you are drawing matchsticks to see which ones have the shortest ones. we do have to cut out some of the waste. we should go by waste first before we should

idea that senator wyden of oregon has been working with us and one, a newer idea that steve and i dreamed up in a bar in italy a few years. first of all, the president has been talking about stimulating the economy with transportation infrastructure investment. ron wyden of oregon and a republican from north dakota have been pushing for a trip bond program, $50 billion to be distributed, $1 billion to every state. we love the program, but it is going to help metro states, urban states. this concept of oregon and north dakota senators is a billion to go out to every state, so little states and big states all get the same benefit. this would be distributed over six years and the cost to the treasury would be paid for. and there would be no debt incurred at the state level. we think that that proposal has tremendous potentials. senator hoeven came by to speak to us last year and wyden last year. mentioned your program and we would love to see it. the next thing i want to put on the table and this should scare the pants off of all of you. this is real and this is jack's work, so you k

, america can meet the test of a new day. my brother steve, the inventor, innately grasps this challenge. so must we. the speaker pro tempore: the gentlewoman's time has expired. for what purpose does the gentlelady from california seek recognition? >> to address the house for one minute. the speaker pro tempore: without objection, the gentlewoman is recognized for one minute. >> mr. speaker, i also rise to recognize the 40th anniversary of the supreme court roe v. wade decision this landmark decision granted american women the right to make their own personal health decisions. in consultation with her family and her faith and without government intrusion. mrs. capps: however, this right has been under steady attack in recent years with a clore goal, to make it so difficult to obtain a safe and legal abortion that it's become de facto illegal. but i'm among those who remember what what it was like when women were pushed into the shadows to get care and we cannot go back to that dangerous time. the truth is, none of us can walk in the shoes of each woman, facing an unwanted pregnancy. so let'

his gun safety measures. texas rep steve stockman issued the warning yesterday saying he will introduce articles of impeachment if obama uses executive order to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. stockman claims a use of that power by the president would be unconstitutional and an existential threat to the nation. this is not the first time he's taken a controversial stance on guns. during his first term in the house, his office was slow to turn over a letter to the fbi that appeared to contain evidence about the oklahoma city bombings. last week, he proposed a repeal of all gun-free zones in schools. it looks like president obama might have to issue executive order if he wants anything done on gun control. joe biden's task force will likely propose a ban on high-capacity clips and on assault weapons but majority leader harry reid says something like that might pass the senate but he doubts it has any chance of passing the house. state governors though are making some progress on new gun laws. new york's andrew cuomo and other lawmakers from the state reached a deal
